The first courthouse that St. Charles County built for that purpose.  Other locations had been rented for courtroom use previously.  This courthouse with its classic Greek revival style, was located on main Street in St. Charles.  It was built between 1846-49 for about $9,000. It was demolished in 1903 when the “second Courthouse” on Clerk’s Hill was completed.

The second Courthouse that St. Charles County built for that purpose.  Located on "Clerk's Hill”, it now serves as the St. Charles County Administration Building. Jerome B. Legg was hired as the architect in July 1898 to prepare plans.  Due to budgetary problems, it was not until December 1900 that the county commenced construction, using Legg's 1898 design.  It was built for under $100,000.  Cornerstone ceremonies took place on June 12, 1901
